USA to the UK - International Pet Transport Overview

Microchip
The microchip must be implanted BEFORE the rabies vaccine is administered. Dogs, cats and ferrets must be identified by an ISO compliant microchip. The United Kingdom currently accepts AVID 9 and AVID 10 in addition to ISO.

Primary Rabies Vaccination
One year vaccination administered right after the microchip implant (same day or after). Primary vaccine is valid only for one year (even if on the rabies vaccination record notes 3 years) and must be given 21 days prior to entry into the U.K.

Rabies Booster
A rabies vaccination administered BEFORE the primary rabies vaccination expires. This booster rabies can be valid for 3 years, only if you have the proof of the primary rabies vaccination.

Health Certificate
Non-commercial move: if you are flying within 5 days of your pet; longer timeline for paperwork process resulting in easier logistics and less stress
Commercial move: if you are NOT flying within 5 days of your pet; timeline is stricter and there is absolutely NO room for error

Tapeworm Treatment
Dogs ONLY must be treated by a USDA Accredited Veterinarian between 24 and 120 hours (1 and 5 days) before entering the U.K. The medication used must be labeled as an effective treatment against tapeworms, specifically echinococcus multilocularis.
