Private Door-to-Door Pet Transport

When Your Pet Cannot or Should Not Fly -- We Drive

Not every pet is a good candidate for airline cargo. Brachycephalic breeds, large dogs that exceed size limits, puppies under airline age minimums, senior pets with health conditions, and any pet traveling during summer heat embargoes -- all of these animals need a ground transport solution.

The Pet Porters provides private, door-to-door ground pet transportation across the continental United States. Your pet rides in a climate-controlled vehicle with a professional handler who is with them every mile -- no cargo holds, no airport connections, no strangers handling your pet without your knowledge.

Some owners choose ground transport simply because they want the most personalized, attentive experience available. That is a completely valid reason too.

Certified & Licensed

The Pet Porters Safety Standard

Every ground transport we operate meets or exceeds federal and state requirements for professional animal transport. Here is what that means for your pet.

USDA-Certified Intermediate Handler

License No. #74-H-0127 — The Pet Porters is a federally certified intermediate handler under the Animal Welfare Act, regulated by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. This certification governs how we handle, transport, and care for animals in transit and is one of the highest professional standards in domestic pet transport.

Pet CPR & First Aid Certified

Our handlers are certified in pet CPR and first aid. In the unlikely event of a medical situation during transport, your pet is with someone trained to respond appropriately while veterinary care is arranged.

Fully Licensed & Insured

The Pet Porters carries full commercial liability insurance covering pet transport operations. Documentation is available upon request. You are protected and so is your pet for the entirety of the journey.

Climate-Controlled Vehicles

All transport vehicles maintain controlled interior temperature regardless of outside conditions. Your pet travels in comfort whether crossing the Sonoran Desert in July or the Rockies in February.

Ideal For

Ground Transport Is the Right Choice When...

Brachycephalic or Restricted Breeds

Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boxers, and other snub-nosed breeds are banned from airline cargo by most carriers. Ground transport has no breed restrictions whatsoever.

Large Dogs Over Cargo Size Limits

Great Danes, Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, and other giant breeds often exceed the maximum kennel size accepted on passenger aircraft. No such limit exists for ground transport.

Senior or Medically Complex Pets

Older pets and those on medication or with health conditions benefit from the constant supervision and flexible rest schedule that ground transport provides -- and avoid the stress of cargo holds.

Summer Heat Embargo Season

When Southern U.S. temperatures exceed airline embargo thresholds (typically above 85°F), airline cargo becomes unavailable. Ground transport in a climate-controlled vehicle is the safe alternative.

Puppies & Kittens

Young animals under airline minimum age requirements (typically 8 weeks) and those being transported to new families from breeders are ideal ground transport candidates.

Owners Who Want Maximum Peace of Mind

Some owners simply prefer knowing a dedicated professional is with their pet every mile of the journey -- not in a cargo hold -- with photo updates and direct communication throughout.

Common Questions

Ground Pet Transport FAQ

We provide ground pet transportation across the entire continental United States. This includes coast-to-coast moves, regional relocations, and everything in between. We do not currently provide ground transport to Hawaii or Alaska -- for those destinations, airline cargo coordination is required.
A coast-to-coast transport (for example, Los Angeles to New York) typically takes 4-6 days depending on the route, rest stops, and any overnight arrangements. Shorter regional moves may take 1-3 days. Your detailed itinerary including estimated overnight cities is provided before pickup so you know exactly what to expect.
Yes -- we transport dogs and cats. Cats travel in secure kennels with bedding, a litter box that is cleaned regularly throughout the journey, and food and water on their normal schedule. Cats typically travel more comfortably in ground transport than in airline cargo, as the environment is quieter and more stable.
Yes -- pets from the same household can travel together, which also makes the experience less stressful for animals that are bonded. Each pet still has their own appropriately sized kennel for rest and safety. Contact us with the number, size, and species of pets you are transporting and we will advise on the best vehicle configuration.
Health certificate requirements vary by state and by the specific circumstances of the transport. Current rabies vaccination documentation is generally required. For interstate transport, a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) may be needed depending on your origin and destination states. We advise you on exactly what documentation your pet needs before pickup.
The Marco Polo is a radio-frequency tracking device that attaches to your dog's harness and provides real-time location tracking independent of cellular network coverage. Unlike GPS-only trackers that stop working in areas with poor cell signal, the Marco Polo RF system works in remote areas, wooded terrain, and rural regions along interstate routes where cellular coverage may be limited. It is an additional layer of security on top of our double-leash protocol.
